If the printer has extended trays, e.g. tray 3, and if the PostScript (PS) driver is used, the printer will always select the paper from tray 1, even though there’s no paper in that tray.
So far, I have found no “solution” to the problem. The best thing we can do is avoiding the automatic paper tray selection by setting different paper size and type.

2. Press the ITEM button until Paper Handling Menu appears in the control panel display and press the Select button.
3. Press the ITEM button until Tray 1 Mode appears in the control panel display and press Select .
4. Press the Value button to until FIRST appears in the control panel display and press Select . If paper is loaded in Tray 1, the printer will pull paper from that tray first.
